The New Review - The Sorcerer's Apprentice Blu-Ray

That's right, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" from Disney...
Yet another movie about magic... but is this one "different"?

The New Review

"The Sorcerer's Apprentice"
Starring Nicholas Cage, Jay Baruchel, Alfred Molina

Background Check: In light of the long stream of movies with magic in them like the Harry Potter series, this movies takes a much more classic meets modern approach that actually feel fresh for once...

Concept: Balthazar Blake(Nicholas Cage) is an apprentice of a more powerful famous wizard(watch the movie to find out), searching for centuries for the tired movie archetype of "The One", which he thinks he find in Dave(Jay Baruchel), but loses him for 10 years, when Balthazar employs Dave to become his apprentice to try and stop the destruction of the world...

Execution: Quite a bit darker than most Disney movies, this movie does a great job at tying the generations of the story together, and after seeing Harry Potter, it's nice to see sorcerers that don't have to chant a spell to cast one. The story is engaging, and actually made sense. The cast was perfect, from Cage's usual brand of humor, Baruchel's quirky sense of bumbling, and Molina is always a good choice for a villain...

Extra points: Nicholas Cage and Alfred Molina is more than enough for extra points, but there is an awesome live-action omage to the famous "Sorcerer Mickey" scene from Fantasia with the mops and brooms coming to life... that was pretty cool then, and it's even better live-action, even though it was CGI

Rate me please:
Cast: 9/10                      Great main cast
Characters: 9/10
Story: 9.5/10                   Good idea Disney
Visual: 7.5/10                 Too much CGI can become old
Sound: 8.5/10
Humor: 9.5/10
Action: 8.5/10
Flow: 9.5/10
Closure: 7.5/10                Weak ending, but possible sequel
Extra Oomph: 9/10

Total Score: 87.5/100       A great Disney movie

In closing: This was a great old school magic meets new school world movie. Nicholas Cage must have hit his head or something, because now he's done three movie genres I didn't think he would, superhero(Ghost Rider) animated(CGI, G-Force, voice of the mole) and live-action Disney, and aside from G-Force, the change has benefited Cage enough to warrant sequels, with "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" coming next summer, and this movie looks to lead to one... But the movie was good, and a great alternative to Harry Potter. This movie easily mastered the recent Disney art of double layers, one layer for the kids, and a second for the adults... By of course, that's just my opinion...
It's all a matter of opinion: I cannot stress enough that THIS is my opinion, you can either agree with me or not... I don't have to justify my opinion, because *clear throat* that's what this blog is about. Whether I like it or not doesn't mean you have to or not...... it's just my justification for giving you all MY recommendation...... which leads me to my FINAL JUDGMENT
FINAL JUDGMENT: Weak in minor ways, this movie is a great FAMILY movie... not for the kids, not for the adults, but for everybody... and don't forget the mop scene... pretty good, and funny too...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There it is folks, an 87.5 for Disney's "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", it is an amazing Disney movie, for a company that might've needed to re-extend it's audience...

When it's over, come back and thank me...

Tune in next time for The New Review of "The Expendables"
