The New Review - Terminator: Genisys

It's that time again. And it's been awhile...

So we are slightly changing the format...

Slightly

Here we go...

The New Review!!
"Terminator: Genisys"
Director: Alan Taylor
Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney

Background Check: Terminator. James Cameron's multi-million dollar baby. Story of an A.I. taking over and destroying the world. A resistance led by human John Connor. Each story revolving around the A.I. trying to kill John Connor in the past or even trying to kill his mother so he could never be born... Killer robots... Metal mayhem... And Terminator 2: Judgment Day proving that sometimes a sequel can be better than the first.

Concept: John Connor send Kyle Reese back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor from the original terminator. Only thing is... EVERYTHING is different.

Execution:
Cast: Surprisingly well done cast. Emilia Clarke reminds of a young Linda Hamilton. Jai Courtney needed something to make up for "Live Free or Die Hard". Arnold has still got it. Jason Clarke made a better John Connor than Christian Bale. Excellent all around...... Score: 9/10

Characters: see above... Oh... And throw in a Doctor Who in there for good measure... Score: 9/10

Visual: Not enough explosions for someone like Michael Bay, but it works so well. Dead metal... Score: 8/10

Sound: also see above... Score: 8/10

Story: Very well done, except slightly confusing... If you hadn't seen any of the others. I HAVE seen the others, but still kind of irritating that it is almost required for you see the original 2 movies to get why everything is changed. That being said, this was a pretty good sequel/remake all in one... The requirement gets to me... Score: 4/10

Flow: While a movie about time traveling robots with a splash of a love story worked back in 1984, this one only gave us a trickle of the love story, because it all... Changed... But the two parts worked together. The length of the movie hurt it tremendously. It moved way to fast for its own good. If the movie would've had another 15-20 minutes, some mid-major things could've been explained alittle better. Because of that, the flow was weak... Score: 5/10

Substance: the story was gripping... Which is saying something about a movie plot we have seen many many times. Slight twist, but if you watched the trailers, it was ruined. That being said, a great action movie, and filled with little ribs at its own history... Score: 9/10

Closure: Well... It ended. But that's a good thing. A great wrap up, and leaving open for another sequel I actually want to see. With another poke at the past that you will only understand if you watch the originals... And I did. So... Score: 10/10

Legacy: This series is filled with oops. The first two movies are legendary. Terminator 3 was a huge steaming pile of dog shit. And the ONLY good thing about Terminator Salvation is Marcus Wright. This had to do a lot to make of for those last two... And thankful it has. Stayed rooted while carving its own place in awesomeness. The start of another great trilogy maybe?... Score: 9/10

Extra Oomph: Having two Arnolds was very cool, but I give this to a concept never explored in the series before... Going FORWARD in time. I won't tell you how or why, but it was finally used. And very well. Could've been more, but it served its purpose... Score: 8/10

Total Score: 79/100.          C+

Conclusion: It really was a great movie. But that is because I knew what to expect going in. I've seen the whole series. Not disappointing at all.

It's all a matter of opinion: I cannot stress enough that THIS is MY opinion, you can either agree with me or not. I don't have to justify my opinion, because *clears throat* that's what this blog is about. Whether I like it or not doesn't mean you have to or not...... It's just my justification behind MY recommendation... Which leads me to my FINAL JUDGMENT...

Final Judgment: if you have never seen a Terminator movie in your life, don't go see this movie. You will be lost as fuck. You get the idea... But you won't understand WHY, and that makes the movie what it is. If you HAVE seen a Terminator movie, then I recommend it. Seriously. Do it.

So I have given "Terminator: Genisys" a 79.

Pretty meh... But if you are a fan of the series, then this is a must see. And I AM a fan
