What's the trifecta? I saw it theaters, watched it on Blu-Ray, and thus feel like I watched the DVD...
That's right, "The Expendables"... billed as having just about every action star known to man... you knew three things: blood, people gonna die, and they were gonna beat the shit out of each other somehow...
The New Review
"The Expendables"
Starring Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, and many more
Oh... Directed by Sly Stallone as well...
This gonna be fun
Background Check: This movie pretty much has every bad ass that the movie industry has given us over the past 20-25 years that are still alive, except Jean-Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, and Chuck Norris... not big losses, cause they can't act either...
Concept: Create a team of black ops soldiers, now heroes for hire(sound familiar)... they take a job, kick some ass...... you didn't really start watching this movie for the story, did you?
Execution: I cannot stress enough, Stallone didn't assemble a cast of great actors, he got a cast of guys famous for kicking other people's asses, from himself and Jet Li, WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin and UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture, including newcomer Terry Crews("Everybody Hates Chris"), and cameos from Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzneggar... among many other BIG BAD ASS names in this movie... again, you didn't watch this for the story, you watched it for the ass kicking... and this movie delivers... from hand-to-hand to army warfare, this movie gives you an overdose... and it's awesome...
Extra points: I can't stress that the cream of the Hollywood ass-kicking crop is in the movie... but how do you get so many big names to work together, while starring in the movie you're directing, and not everyone has a cameo role? Amazingly enough, this movie did it...
Rate me please:
Cast: 10/10
Characters: 5/10 They suck in development
Story: 5/10 There is no story
Visual: 9/10
Sound: 9/10
Humor: 8/10
Action: 20/10 Over the top
Flow: 10/10 Nonstop action
Closure: 7/10 Bad closing, but not much of a story to close
Extra Oomph: 10/10
Total Score: 93/100 w Bonus Best action film this year
83/100 w/o Bonus Still pretty good
In closing: No, it's not favoritism, if you are looking for action, then you'll find plenty of it here, worthy of the extra points for action... but it you're looking for a story-driven story of heroism, you will be sadly disappointed... but if you saw any trailer, this movie screams people beating the fuck out of other people, then blowing up stuff, then beating more people's asses... while including some perfectly executed hand-to-hand combat sequences that showcase what brought each of them involved to this movie, and I won't spoil which actors are in each, but if they were Stallone's ideas, I think he need to direct more movies like this, because they were works of genius... By then again, that's just my opinion...
It's all a matter of opinion: I cannot stress enough that THIS is my opinion, you can either agree with me or not... I don't have to justify my opinion, because *clear throat* that's what this blog is about. Whether I like it or not doesn't mean you have to or not...... it's just my justification for giving you all MY recommendation...... which leads me to my FINAL JUDGMENT
FINAL JUDGMENT: This movie rocks. Definitely not for the kiddies, but if you wanted to see it based on what you knew beforehand, you knew that... filled with action and explosions and grisly deaths that you will have no problem yelling at the TV cause something was awesome... if you like action flicks, BUY THIS MOVIE... if you don't, then I would AVOID THIS MOVIE... your heart won't feel warm, but your stomach might churn...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There it is, a score of 93 for "The Expendables", a kick ass movie filled with kick ass action legends and newcomers, garnished with amazing ass-kicking sequences... this is a kiss ass movie...
When it's over, come back and thank me...
Tune in next time for The New Review of "Yogi Bear"
