The New Gaming Review - Mortal Kombat PS3

As promised, here it is...

The New Review
"Mortal Kombat" for PS3

Publisher: Warner Bros.
Developer: Netherrealm Studios

Since this my first game review on here, it will be a slight difference than the movie reviews...

If you don't know about Mortal Kombat, go check out the Preview post... then come back... Here we go...

Visual: This is a really bloody, really gory game... And that's exactly what us fans were wanting... as good of a game I thought Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe was, it was watered down compared to what it could've been(because of the DC Comics element), and this game answered the need... Each Character is unique, no palette swapping this time... each stage is beautiful, even Hell... each Fatality looks great... even the non fighting aspects look amazing... Street Fighter 4 may have brought back the 2D Fighter, but again, Mortal Kombat perfected it... The X-Rays are some of the best visual magic aspects of the game... Score: 10/10

Sound: Screams, screeches, splats, crunches... all are awesome... stage music is great, and I thought it was cool to include some of the Klassic stage music... and my favorite sounds are the Cyberninjas, hit one, and it sounds like metal... brilliant... I know it's nit-picky, but it would've been worse without it... Score: 9.5/10

Control: If you've played a fighting game, then this is easy to pick up... if you've played a Mortal Kombat game, you will feel right at home... slight changes, but it feels like nothing has changed, except gotten better... Fatalities are easier to use, and the response time for all moves are nearly perfect... pulling off Super-Moves include a single button press along with the original move, and X-Rays take the pull of both triggers... definitely make this easy to play... Score: 10/10

Modes: there are plenty of things to do... you can play traditional Ladder arcade mode(solo or tag team), you can even go 2 player in Tag Ladder... there is a Story Mode(more on that later)... Versus mode, wouldn't be a fighting game without it(One on One, Tag 1-4 players)... Test Your Might, Test Your Sight, Test Your Strike, and Test Your Luck Mini-Games... a giant 300 mission Challenge Tower... Online modes(which because PSN is down, I can try it)... and Training mode, including a Fatality Trainer, for the first time...... they did well... there isn't really anything else they could've added... Score: 10/10

Story: There hasn't been alot of story for Mortal Kombat games, at least not until Deadly Alliance and since... the best Story mode goes to MK vs DC, at least until now... I won't spoil it, but I will tell you the premise and structure... Raiden is about to killed by an invincible Shao Kahn, when he sends a warning to Raiden on how he could possibly prevent it... Story mode then takes you through the story of Mortal Kombat starting the first tournament or MK1 and ending... well, after MK3... broken up into chapters where you take control of a character for roughly 4 fights that flow into the story and not break it up... filling in story elements not explained in the original Trilogy, and introduced new ones(like the human forms of Cyrax and Sektor)... it was sufficient but I still thing it should've been alittle more... Good job nonetheless... Score: 9/10

Balance: This is the most balanced fighting game... and it re-balanced the classic set-up... all the Mortal Kombat Trilogy characters are here, except for Rain(who cared about him anyway, good choice)... and back then, some characters were completely over-matched, while all of them got upgrades for this game, the ones that were over-matched got enough to make it fair... I'm actually impressed with what they've done... not entirely perfect, but MUCH better than some other fighting games(cough cough... Marvel vs Capcom 3)... and the bosses are stronger(as they should be), but don't feel overpowering and nearly-impossible... Score: 10/10

Extras: The obvious is of course Kratos for PS3, while it's cool, he's not the greatest MK Fighter, so 360 Users, don't get too depressed about it... as for hidden fighters, I've only discovered 2(I dunno if there are anymore), check out the Preview post... as for the Krypt, this is the most streamline, nothing unimportant... it alctually pretty cool... the new stage fatalities are great... not over powering, but perfect for what it is and what you get for it... oh, and what you have to do to get it... Score: 9.5/10

Hype: This game was hyped, but not overly hyped... BUT everything was got... the moniker Most-Anticipated Game of the yet... I agree... and this game lived up to that... This is by far the best fighting game I've ever played... and definitely the best Mortal Kombat game... Score: 10/10

Legacy: The Mortal Kombat franchise has always been the forerunner for pushing the envelope for gaming, hell, it is solely responsible for the ESRB Video Game rating system, which helped get us more Mortal Kombat games... Known for it's gore and play-style, MK is unique in almost every way... often imitated, never duplicated...... BUT it did hit a rough patch during the PS2/3D era, concluding with the piss-poor MK:Armageddon... This edition has redeemed this series, and restored it to it's former gory glory... Score: 10/10

Replay: Extremely high... now, just like the older games, and most fighting games in general, playing it alone just isn't going to cut, but playing with others... this game kills... literally... BUT this one has so many new options, it entertains me, that's saying something...... need a break from the usual? Test Your Luck is fun, and can be hilarious is you end up playing Armless and Headless Kombat...... as fighting games go, you WILL be playing it over and over again... Score: 10/10

Rundown:
Visual:               10/10

Final:                98/100

Conclusion: No game is absolutely perfect, but as for as this genre goes, this one is as close as you can get... Mortal Kombat is once again the King of the Fighting Games...

Pros: See above
Cons: This games is clearly not for everyone, but if you knew that already, then you won't mind...

Favorite Feature(s): Simply the new Fatality System... They are easier to perform, you get at least alittle more time to perform them, and there is a Fatality Trainer to show you where and how to perform them... and since there is a Move List on the Pause Screen, for the first time in a Mortal Kombat game, the Fatalities are listed at the bottom of the Special Moves List... everyone starts with one, the second one is hidden and can be unlocked by finding it in the Krypt or performing it the first time... same way with the Stage Fatality, once it's used the first time, it's on the list...... thanks Ed Boon, for finally doing this for us... and Test Your Luck is highly entertaining

It's all a matter of opinion: I cannot stress enough that THIS is my opinion, you can either agree with me or not... I don't have to justify my opinion, because *clear throat* that's what this blog is about. Whether I like it or not doesn't mean you have to or not...... it's just my justification for giving you all MY recommendation...... which leads me to my FINAL JUDGMENT

FINAL JUDGMENT: If you can stomach the blood, guts, and gore, this game NEEDS to be in your collection... PS3 or XBox 360... DO IT NOW...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There it is folks, a 98/100... a Near Flawless Victory...

That concludes my first gaming New Review...

I have noticed that I have passed 1,000 views on my site, with nearly 500 just this month... thank you......

I will be doing a personal blog post next week...

I'm going to resume playing my Mortal Kombat... my area is flooded, and more rain is on the way, so I am grateful to have this to occupy my time... now, go get it if you haven't yet...

When it's over, come back to thank me...
