Anatomy of a Song - Back to What Brought You Edition

Well... it's been even longer since I've done an Anatomy post... let's see if I still got it.
I haven't bought very many albums since I last did an Anatomy post. I should've done one for Gary Allan's "Set You Free", mainly for "It Ain't The Whiskey". Because he IS my favorite artist.
BUT the subject of this Anatomy is Big & Rich. If Gary is my fave artist, then Big & Rich would be my fave duo. Their sound has always been unique, ranging from rockin' country like "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)" to wedding ballads like "Lost In This Moment" to just cool crooning like "Between Raising Hell and Amazing Grace".

A couple years ago, Big Kenny Alphin had to have surgery on his throat, so his partner John Rich released a solo album that gave us "Shutting Detroit Down". So when Big Kenny came back, he released a solo album as well that gave us "Long After I'm Gone". But fans wanted them to reunite. And they did... with "Hillbilly Jedi". I don't want to say that it was bad, because none of their stuff has been bad... just wasn't as good as I had hoped...
Well, this past Tuesday(Sept 23, 2014), we got "Gravity". And it is definitely up to par. Back to "Lost In This Moment" territory. Now, I don't listen to the radio right now(my car stereo decided it was time to die), so I don't know what single has hit from it yet... but I've picked two of the songs from "Gravity" to share the lyrics for. I hope you enjoy... I will have more info after the lyrics...
---------------
"Thank God For Pain"
Crushed, smoked, twisted up
And burned like a cigarette
Tossed away
In the rain with no regret
I've been dying on
The bad side of a goodbye
One fall away from the edge
When you kissed me back to life
Thank God for Pain
Cause I never would've known
That love could feel this way
And I know it sounds insane
But thank God for scars
Cause every jagged little one
Got me closer to where we are
And if I hadn't been ripped apart
I never would've kissed your face
Thank God For Pain
I was left, I was lost
Heartbroke, down, and out of luck
I was used, all confused
I was covered up and black and blue
If I'd never known that hurt
Or felt that misery
I'd have never known baby
How much you mean to me
Thank God for Pain
Cause I never would've known
That love could feel this way
And I know it sounds insane
But thank God for scars
Cause every jagged little one
Got me closer to where we are
And if I hadn't been ripped apart
I never would've kissed your face
Thank God For Pain

"Gravity"
They say Gravity
Keeps our feet on the ground
It's just something you can't get around
It's just the way it is
But when I'm flying high
Tangled up with you at night
Ain't no doubt in my mind
What makes us spin
Lovers make the world go round
Like nothing else on this Earth
Love keeps our head above the clouds
When the rain is beating down
I can count on you
You can always lean on me
I know we're gonna carry through
Cause that's what lovers do
Lovers make the world go round
And round and round and round and round
Lovers make the world go round
And round and round and round and round
We get all caught up in
Things that don't mean nothing
Push us so far
It'll test our faith
So let's pull a little closer
Take the weight off of our shoulders
And remember there's one thing
That'll never change
Lovers make the world go round
Like nothing else on this Earth
Love keeps our head above the clouds
When the rain is beating down
I can count on you
You can always lean on me
I know we're gonna carry through
Cause that's what lovers do
Lovers make the world go round
And round and round and round and round
Lovers make the world go round
And round and round and round and round

Reasons I picked these two songs. Well, for one, I am dedicating them my Princess Daisy... but other reason. I think "Thank God For Pain" is almost about me. I haven't gotten to the point where I can be thankful for my pain, but I'm grateful for the destination it has gotten me to. "Gravity" is just good writing. It equates gravity to the pull of lovers... and yes, both make the world go round.
Plus, I just like the songs.
If you are a fan of Big & Rich, buy this album. If you are a fan of country music without prejudice, but this album. If you aren't either of those, go download it illegally, listen to it, and then feel bad about not buying this great album.
"Gravity" and "Thank God For Pain" aren't the only good tracks... check out "Look At You", "Brand New Buzz", "Don't Wake Me Up", and even though it's a cheatin' song... "Lovin' Lately w/ Tim McGraw" is an excellent song, and some of the best harmony vocals I've heard in a while...
Well... that's it for this edition of Anatomy of a Song. Tune in next time when I go back and do "Set You Free" by Gary Allan...... and later on when I tackle the "Awesome Mix Vol 1" from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
I don't remember my Anatomy sign off... so whatever...
